Meet the incaberry

News — Posted 29/07/14

Move over acai – there’s a new superfood berry popping up in trendy cafes, grocers and health food stores all around town.

The incaberry, also known as a cape gooseberry, Peruvian groundcherry or golden berry, is native to South America and has been used for therapeutic purposes for hundreds of years. A relative of the tomato, the incaberry almost looks like a small kumquat, and is packed full of antioxidants, vitamin C and dietary fibre. Now, chefs and foodies are catching on to its exotic brilliance, using it in pastries, muffins, desserts, smoothies, jams, breakfast bowls, trail mixes and more to add an extra nutritional punch – as well as a uniquely sweet and sour flavour.
