New scenic course for IRONMAN Cairns
IRONMAN Cairns and IRONMAN 70.3 Cairns become even more spectacular with scenic changes to the 2014 event course.
It’s renowned as one of the most beautiful courses on the Ironman calendar. Now, the two iconic Cairns events are set to provide athletes with an even more memorable and engaging experience, as changes to the 2014 event course have been announced.
The course now begins on the stunning, palm-fringed beaches of Palm Cove with a 3.8 km swim through the tropical waters. After completing the new swim, participants will get on their bikes to follow a 180 km trail looping along the scenic Captain Cook Highway to Port Douglas and back. The cycle leg winds down in the heart of Cairns, followed by the run through the Cairns festival village and city.
These changes allow for more crowd interaction and atmosphere for the entire run throughout Cairns City, and provides for future growth and better traffic management.
