Milestone Pod: How long do your runners last?

A clever new device that tracks the mileage of your running shoes.

Is it time for new running shoes? As a general guide, podiatrist Rick Osler says runners should replace their footwear every 700-800 km. But how do you keep track of the mileage you’re really racking up on your kicks? Enter Milestone Pod, a clever device that takes out the guesswork, so you can just focus on your stride.

The Milestone Pod loops through your shoelaces and tracks the mileage of your footwear as you run. It’s simple to use – just input the distance you think your shoes will last for, and when you reach that milestone the gadget will alert you. Once you replace your runners, you can clear the Milestone Pod’s memory and start your tracking again.

While there are plenty of other devices that can track distance and tally workouts, the Milestone Pod brings it back to the shoe itself, so you can run smartphone-free and never miss documenting the distance of a session because you left your device at home. It will also track additional distance travelled in those shoes, from quick sprints up stairs to jogging with your dog in the park.

Syncing via bluetooth to provide data to the free Milestone Pod app, the device stores detailed workout information included overall mileage, individual run mileage and pace for up to two weeks. Developed by runners for runners, it’s a simple, low cost way to ensure your over-used runners don’t cause injury, while helping you tally your strides.
