Jeans for Genes Day

Gutsy enough for double denim? Wear jeans this Friday to support research into genetic disorders

On the first Friday in August each year, workplaces and schools across Australia become distinctly more denim in a nation-wide show of support for genetic research.

Jeans for Genes Day raises much-needed funds for research into birth defects and diseases such as cancer, epilepsy and a range of genetic disorders. One in 20 children is born with a congenital abnormality or genetic disease – that’s over 12,000 children born in Australia each year.

Every dollar raised on Jeans for Genes Day helps scientists at Children’s Medical Research Institute discover treatments and cures, to give every child the opportunity to live a long and healthy life. And a little can go a long way. Just a gold coin will buy enough of the crucial enzyme needed to test the blood of one patient for aggressive types of cancers.

For model, actress and new mum Jodi Anasta, becoming an ambassador for this year’s Jeans for Genes campaign was “a no brainer” after giving birth to her first child Aleeia, in March 2014.

“It’s definitely something that resonates with me very strongly being a first time mum,” Jodi says.

Join Jodi and get involved by wearing jeans this Friday, making a donation and encouraging your colleagues, family and friends to support this vital cause.
