Gendered violence support at the tap of a button

Meet Daisy: an app connecting women experiencing violence with support in a safe, secure way.

Written by Medibank

Domestic and family violence affects one in three Australian women. Sexual assault affects one in five women over the age of 15.

Every woman has the right to feel safe. If you or someone you know is experiencing gendered violence, it’s important you know there is support available to help. And now, there’s a free app called Daisy that can help put you in touch with the right people.

Daisy was developed by 1800RESPECT, the national sexual assault and domestic violence counselling service delivered by Medibank on behalf of the Australian Government.

This is the first Australian app of its kind, connecting women to local support services and information, all in a safe, secure and intuitive environment.

Daisy allows you to:

Find a support service. View information about a wide network of support services across Australia, including legal services, crisis accommodation, counselling services, financial services, children’s services and more.

Get emergency help. Directly contact the police with the ‘Get Help’ function that pushes 000 through to the phone dial pad.

Seek information privately. Search the internet for more information from within the app, so you don’t leave a history on your phone’s browser. A ‘Quick Exit’ function also allows you to quickly close down screens if you need to.

Save details for later. Make a list of your favourite services for quick and easy reference when you might need them.

Gather information. Learn more about the nature and extent of gendered violence, including advice on how to increase your online safety.

Daisy will be continually updated to make sure information and service details remain current. Stage two of Daisy is scheduled for release in August. This next stage will include improved accessibility for women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and Aboriginal and Torre Strait backgrounds as well as women with a disability.

The app has recently been recognised in the Victorian Australian Information Industry Association iAwards, which celebrates creativity, innovation and excellence in information communications technology. As the Government Sector winner in the Victorian awards, Daisy will compete in the National iAwards this August.

Daisy is free and available on both the Apple iOS App Store and Android Google Play Store. Find out more at 1800respect.org.au/daisy
