Would you recognise the symptoms of an allergic reaction to food?
Australia has one of the highest food allergy prevalence rates in the world, however new research reveals nearly half of parents would not know what to do if someone suffered an allergic reaction to food. Despite this serious knowledge gap, of the 1061 Australians who participated in the Galaxy Research survey, 79% of parents believe schools can be overly concerned with the food students brought in. Georgia Karabatsos, Medibank 24/7 Health Advice Line Medical Director finds these results worrying. “It is hugely concerning that such a large majority of parents wouldn’t recognise the symptoms of a reaction to food – it is crucial to catch an adverse reaction as quickly as possible in case it can be life threatening,” she said.
