Adidas Springblade review

They look like something from the sea floor, but their unique design will put a spring in your step.

The first thing you’ll notice about the striking adidas Springblade runner is, of course, the blades that make up the shoe’s midsole. Designed to provide ‘dynamic energy return’, the 16 leaf-shaped plastic blades are each carefully engineered at different angles and thicknesses to correspond to the position on the shoe. It’s a concept that was six years in the making, and the result is a comfortable, breathable, and ultimately energetic running experience.

For those of us less knowledgeable in the sports shoe world, running shoes usually have a foam midsole, which provides a cushiony vertical rebound. In contrast, the idea is that these high-tech polymer blades provide energy return in a forward direction, so that they propel you forward as you run.

Running in the Springblades is a light and bouncy experience, with great cushioning from impact and a definite springy feeling. The upper Techfit layering wraps comfortably around the shoe, and the air mesh tongue and collar make it very breathable. Whether you’re a serious runner or just like to jog along the beach, the feel of these runners on your feet offers great motivation. Plus, the slick, futuristic look and vibrant colour combinations will definitely draw attention.
